Japanese inlaid shibuichi and silver vase worked in katakiri-bori of shakudo, shibuichi and gold with a sparrow in flight beneath foliage and berry branches, the neck simulating a running silver glaze signed to the body with chiselled characters Masachika koku 政近刻 (engraved by Masachika) with tomobako wood storage box, Taishō period (1912-1926).

The sparrow (suzume 雀) is symbolic of happiness and prosperity.
