Japanese inlaid silver vase of baluster form with an everted neck worked in katakiri-bori and honzogan of gold, shibuichi, shakudo and copper carved with a blossoming peony and a sparrow in flight signed to the body in chiselled characters Hiroteru koku 廣照刻 (carved by Hiroteru) and stamped to the underside with the mark Jungin 純銀 (pure silver) with fitted wood stand and tomobako storage box, Taishō period (1912-1926).
The artist Hiroteru worked for the Tenshodo Company 天賞堂 of Ginza district in Tokyo which was founded in 1879 and specialised in high quality works of art, such as metalwork, watches, clocks, commissioning some of the most important metalwork artists of the period.
Hiroteru also associated with the Yamasaki studio 山崎 in Tokyo.
