Japanese wood okimono study of a hare (usagi 兎) naturalistically carved in marubori (carving in the round) in a seated position with its head slightly turned and the long ears folded over its back, signed with incised characters Taishō juninen shunjitsu Ryusen to 大正拾弐年春日, 龍僊刀 (carved by Ryusen, on a spring day in the Taishō 12th year), Taishō period dated 1923.

The Hare is the fourth sign of the Japanese Zodiac and is considered to be a symbol of luck and fertility.
